Barneville-Carteret, commune littorale sur la côte Ouest du Cotentin est baignée par les eaux du Gulf Stream. Trois plages de sable fin accueillent chaque année un grand nombre de touristes. Classée “commune touristique” en 1921, lauréate du Pavillon Bleu depuis plusieurs années, elle vient d’être classée “station balnéaire” grâce à sa situation et ses équipements destinés, avec ce label, à se développer dans les années à venir. Commune aux atouts particuliers, elle se distingue par trois pôles bien distincts : le bourg de Barneville avec administrations et commerces, la plage de Barneville animée en été, et enfin Carteret avec son bourg, sa plage, son port de plaisance, les falaises et le Cap, site remarquable d’où l’on aperçoit les îles anglo-normandes, et certains jours, un ballet de dauphins. D’une population permanente de 2 458 habitants sur un territoire de 1 000 hectares, elle peut accueillir une population saisonnière de 18 000 à 20 000 habitants.

Located on the West coast of Cotentin Peninsula, Barnesville-Carteret is warmed up by the Gulf Stream. Every summer, the 3 sandy beaches welcome great amounts of tourists. Barnesville-Carteret was listed as a tourist resort in 1921, rewarded from 1995 till now with the European Blue Flag. The town has recently been classified as a seaside resort as a consequence of its situation and its equipments. We expect with this new label more developments in the years to come. Endowed with particular assets, 3 distinct areas can be noticed: the town of Barneville with its administration centre and its high street shops, the beach of Barneville, lively in summer, and the village of Carteret, with its beach and marina, its cliffs and headland, a remarkable site from which you can have a look on the Channel Islands, and sometimes observe the dolphins playing around. From 2,500 inhabitants out of the season, the population increases in the summer time up to 20,000 residents.
