Ag. Mathaios, Beach located in Corfu / Kerkyra

The coast of Agios Mathaios Prasoudi is a sandy
beach situated in the south part of the island of
Corfu and is a resort beach.The most important
environmental activities undertaken by the
Municipality of Melitieon are Seminars, Lectures,
Photo and writing competitions, clean up drawing
competitions, etc.In the wider space of the coast a
number of facilities and services are provided.
These consist of restaurants and tavernas, Hotels
along with self-catering apartments, rent a car,
rent a bicycle, watersports etc.Our Beach has a
length of 200 meters and a Width of 10 meters. The
natural environment of the beach has not got any
rare kind of animals or Plants. The flora is rich and
consists mainly of olive trees, cypress' trees, fruit
trees and several kinds of bushes. The fauna
consists only of domestic animals.The visitors
have the following possibilities in order to reach
the coast:1. Green Buses depart from the centre
of Corfu town at frequent intervals taking you
down to the village of Agios Mathaios.You get off
the bus 2 kilometres past the village at the turnoff
for Halikouna. A thirty minute walk through the
olive groves is then required in order to
reach Prasoudi beach. This pleasant walk is on
the road that winds round the mountain
of Pantokrator. 30 minutes may sound long but it
gives you the chance to visit the ancient ruins of
the Gardiki Castle as well as the Prehistoric Cave
of Grava.The rroad to the beach is properly
signposted and you shouldn't have trouble
reaching the beach. 2. The more convenient means
of getting there is by car or secondly by
motorcycle. Situated 25 kilometres from Corfu town
the drive takes about 40 minutes given the winding
road and the summer traffic. Taking the main road
southwards you drive past the villages of Benitses
and then Moraitika. Approximately 2 kilometres past
Moraitika you turn off right at the road signposted
for Agios Mathaios. 2 Kilometres after the turnoff
you turn left just before the road climbs towards
the village of Agios Mathaios. After this turnoff the
road splits, you take the right turn and in less than
5 minutes you reach the Prasoudi beach turnoff
on your left.
