Sandhaven, South Shields, Beach located in North East
Located next to the River Tyne's south pier, Sandhaven boasts more than half a mile of golden sands. The area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the seabird population, in particular the high number of wintering sanderlings and purple sandpipers. During the summer months the beach is cleaned on a daily basis. A qualified lifeguard service is provided from June until early September and a lively programme of events and activities take place adjacent to the beach during July and August.
