For the second consecutive year, the Corona Save the Beach campaign was launched with Blue Flag as partner
Finn Bolding Thomsen, FEE Director, attended the launch of “Corona Save the Beach” event in Italy, Rome on 3-6 June. The event took place in the Corona Save the Beach Hotel, the first of the world to be made of rubbish partly found on beaches. This hotel was built with 12 tones of non-organic waste, equivalent to two double-decker buses.
The artist, HA Schult was present along with Helena Christensen, supermodel and Corona Save the Beach 2010 Ambassador. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about the need to protect the beaches. The hotel was therefore not a normal hotel, and did not possess any of the comfort or amenities hotels normally have. Helena Christensen, as Ambassador, was the first visitor to sleep for a night in the Corona Save the Beach Hotel – only surrounded by waste. She said the experience was very interesting and she realised by this action how quickly the beaches can become unclean. She invited beach users to treat the beach in the same way that they treat their home and garden.
Finn Bolding Thomsen gave a presentation about environmental concerns in relation to litter on the beach and to the Blue Flag programme.
The Corona Save the Beach 2010 campaign will take place all through this summer and Internet users can nominate from now on the beach they want Corona Extra to save this year. The voting for the beach to be elected and restored will take place from 23rd August on the Corona Save the Beach website: www.coronasavethebeach.org
