The Blue Flag season 2009 in the Netherlands was started with a unique never seen event
On Thursday May 14 the Dutch national operator Erik van Dijk organized the national Blue Flag 2009 opening ceremony at the beach of Castricum. Because the amount of Blue Flags in the Netherlands increased from 85 in 2008 to 110 this year, there was a reason for a big party.
By reaching this +100 milestone, Erik organized 100 flagpoles at the beach in cooperation with and sponsored by Shipmate. A national famous politician received "his" flag from the lifeguards. After that he raised the first Blue Flag and 100 beach and marina managers followed together by raising at the same time a Blue Flag. This was a unique moment: 100 Blue Flags raising at the same time. Needless to say, the event received a lot of media exposure.
