BORA BORA est l’une des île de l’archipel de la Société, située à 280 km au sud ouest de TAHITI en Polynésie Française. Elle est, à juste titre, surnommée « la Perle du Pacifique ».
Soucieux de préserver la beauté de l’île et la qualité de son lagon, Monsieur Gaston TONG SANG, maire de la commune, et son conseil municipal ont mis en place une série de mesures qui ont fait de cette île de 38 km2 un site pilote en matière de développement durable. Tous ces efforts exemplaires ont été récompensés par le label prestigieux du Pavillon Bleu d’Europe et ceci pour la 5ème année consécutive. Bora Bora est la seule commune du Pacifique à recevoir cette distinction depuis l’année 2000.
Sur cette île de 7.500 habitants, on trouve de l’eau potable au robinet dans tous les foyers. Des unités de dessalement d’eau de mer ont été installées afin de répondre aux besoins grandissants de la population locale et touristique. La commune a également mis en place un réseau d’assainissement collectif qui recueille les eaux usées des hôtels et des habitations, et qui les amène vers deux stations d’épurations où elles sont retraitées.
Parallèlement à ces progrès nécessaires au bien-être de la population, les élus de l’île privilégient le maintien des traditions en favorisant les manifestations culturelles et religieuses qui rythment la vie polynésienne.
La population de Bora Bora compte 35% de jeunes de moins de vingt ans. De gros efforts sont consentis par les élus, le Pays et l’Etat afin de proposer des formations qualifiantes qui permettront à ces jeunes de participer au développement d’une société dont nous ambitionnons qu’elle soit la plus harmonieuse possible.

BORA BORA, THE PEARL OF THE PACIFIC


BORA BORA is one of the Islands of the society archipelago, located at 280 km south west of TAHITI; she is, at a just title, called the Pearl of the Pacific.
Worried to preserve the beauty of the Island and the quality of the lagoon, Gaston TONG SANG, Mayor of the community and his municipal counselors put up together several measures that made this Island of 38 km2 a pilot site for its durable development.
All his exemplar efforts had been rewarded by a prestigious label of the “PAVILLON BLEU OF EUROPE” and this for the fifth consecutive year. Bora Bora is the only community of the Pacific to have received this distinction.
On this Island of 7.500 inhabitants, you find potable water in all homes. Three units of desalination of the sea water had been installed and four mores are in construction to respond to the grown needs of the local and tourist population. The community had also put together a collective draining that gather the used water of the hotels and of the inhabitants and that bring them to TWO stations of treatment where they are retreated.
Parallel to this progress, necessary to the well being of the population, the elected of the Island privileges the preservation of the traditions by valorizing the cultural and religious manifestations that rhythm the Polynesian life.
The population of Bora Bora count 35 percent of the young people less than twenty years of age. Big efforts had been approved by the Elected, the Country and the French State to propose qualified training that would permit the youth to participate to the development of the society which we ambition her to be the most harmonious one possible.
