St Andrews West Sands

St Andrews West Sands, Beach located in Fife

Famous for the opening scenes of the film 'Chariots of Fire' West Sands extends for almost two miles of sand backed by dunes and the world renowned golf course.  The beach is about 15 minutes walk from the town centre.  It is very popular with families and also walkers.  There are plenty of wet weather alternatives in the town.

The lifesaving equipment is available at all times of year and lifeguards patrol the beach during the day from 3 July - 20 August.  This year the environmental education theme will be energy conservation.  Beach visitors will be informed about how they can reduce their energy consumption and how this links to climate change and the impact it could have on Fife's Blue Flag beaches in the future.

Access: The beach is accessed from A91 Cupar - St Andrews road.  The closest train station is at Leuchars.
